Go Vegan Radio requires our support!!!!!

URGENT
please forward to everyone now
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
ANIMAL LOVERS, ADVOCATES, & ACTIVISTS - PLEASE WAKE UP AND SUPPORT ONE OF THE GREATEST BREAKTHROUGHS FOR ANIMALS, HUMAN HEALTH, & THE ENVIRONMENT EVER!!!
You know that education and outreach are the the ultimate weapons that animals can have to support them. Until now, there has never been an anti animal-cruelty program regularly scheduled on a major mass media network.
Perhaps you have been too busy to contemplate the magnitude of this breakthrough for animals, for if you had, you certainly would have sold your house, your car, your jewels, and made the most generous donation possible to ensure this program's continuation; for if you had contemplated the magnitude, you certainly would have dedicated yourself to many hours of creative fundraising to guarantee that the animals have representation in the mass media, and perhaps you would have done so with an equal fervor to that of the army currently marching through California in a signature gathering campaign.
Just as every animal's life matters, every person reached with the story of the animals' plight matters. We have no problem devoting a day's energy to set up a storefront table and talk to a few people. We may reach a few more with a megaphone in the streets. But now, the animals have the microphone, and their advocacy is heard around the world, and on dozens of radio stations all across America - in the 4 largest cities in the country, 5 of the top 10, also on XM Satellite, podcasts, archives.
You are busy. You have no time to waste. There is an undeniable urgency faced by the animals and environment, and now a means to address it. This is the most important radio program ever. Make it your priority. People need to know that meat and dairy will kill them, that meat and dairy are causing global warming, that meat and dairy cause energy crises, that vivisection is fraud, that circuses, rodeos, and zoos are not entertainment, that animals' skins aren't fabric, that dogs and cats need to be spayed and neutered. People need to hear perspectives from guests like Dennis Kucinich, Ingrid Newkirk, Howard Lyman, Chris DeRose, Alex Hershaft, Tom Regan, Gary Francione - all on recent broadcasts.
PLEASE - STOP WHAT YOU'RE DOING...
DONATE RIGHT NOW -
whatever you can - $10 or $10,000.
It's tax-deductible.
GO VEGAN RADIO must pay Air America approximately $200,000 annually - for the animals to have a voice. $60,000 has been raised thus far. $6000 is due now, with $12,000 due at the end of the month. There are no large donors, and support from large organizations, while appreciated, has been minimal.
SO IT'S UP TO YOU TO SUPPORT THE GRASSROOTS EFFORT FOR THE ANIMALS.
What's your priority? Is what you are doing as important as having the true cause of the animals heard by hundreds of thousands, and millions? They pay with their lives. You can pay to save them. Please donate to - and fundraise for -
FDA gets blasted!
The Food and Drug Administration was recently lambasted by a third party review with the help of former employees and the report says that the FDA is absolutely useless in protecting the public from either unsafe 'food' or drugs!
We are wasting so much money on war we cant even protect our country from poisonous profit mongers. A lot of people are getting really sick and a few people are making a lot of money and the people who should be helping are appointed by the people making the money. Tough for us i guess. Cancer is everywhere and everyone thinks it is normal!
George Bush Stalling Again on Global Warming
In 1992 I studied Environmental Policy and Global Change. We knew everything then! Now how can we keep stalling like idiots on this obvious and immense issue?
How can the U.S. continue to stall on the Global Warming front. As all the nations gather to attempt to address the gravity of the situation, the U.S. says it will not agree to sign on.
We say that it will hurt our economy too much. I think water in our streets will hurt the economy a bit also. Are we kidding? How can we tolerate this lack of leadership from our government. I am no one to talk i guess... i should be out protesting like everyone else. I am as lazy and complacent as the next guy, and that is pretty lazy and complacent. Maybe one day i will wake up to the reality that the protest is required. Otherwise, just like the war in Iraq, the silent majority who is too busy shopping and playing video games to do anything active, is responsible to some degree.
The only other thing we can do is intensely organize ourselves and to activate when called.
Time to Boycott Sushi
Lets all boycott sushi! I don't eat fish anymore but i know that most people do so i want to say lets stop eating sushi and supporting the destruction of our oceans.
Plus did you know that the Japanese government just sent out it's whaling fleet to kill/harvest 50 HUMPBACK WHALES. Are they kidding. Is that really what we need right now, to go out and kill 50 Humpback whales and several hundred other whales. What the heck is going on? What century are we in! I thought we were mostly over this whaling thing.
So lets Boycott all Japanese Restaurants and travel to Japan until that government agrees to not to send out its whaling fleet on missions like this. When we return to the Sushi restaurants we can all order some nice vegetarian sushi.
Action Time!!! We cant make same mistake twice!
Dear MoveOn member,
To be honest, I don't even like to think about the possibility of war with Iran. But here's the unfortunate truth—plans for an aerial attack have been drawn up.1 There's nothing stopping Bush from launching that attack any day. And right now the progressive movement's main strategy for preventing it is simply to hope that it doesn't happen.
To paraphrase my ninth-grade sex-ed teacher, "Hope is not a method." We need to do something. There are increasing indications that war with Iran may be imminent. And experts agree it would be a catastrophe.
So today we're proposing a major campaign to expose the danger of a new war with Iran (see below for details). It'll cost about $200,000, and if we can raise the money, we'll start today. Can you chip in $25?
https://pol.moveon.org/donate/irandonate.html?id=11491-2080446-BytaAq&t=2
War would be a disaster. Military officials who've gamed-out a war with Iran say it's a very, very bad idea. "Iran would hit back against US forces in Iraq and Afghanistan and activate terrorist allies in the Middle East, further destabilizing a region already struggling with two major wars."2 US troops in the region, Israelis and American civilians abroad and at home would all be at risk.
And it's a real possibility. For months, there's been a stream of leaks and revelations by former Bush administration officials that paint a scary picture: Vice President Cheney and the neocons are quietly maneuvering us toward war with Iran—just as they did with Iraq.3,4
Now, the New York Times reports that Freedom's Watch, a $200 million propaganda machine headed by former White House insiders, has started to press for an attack.5,6 And this past week, Bush and Cheney upped the ante with aggressive statements, even invoking the specter of "World War III."7
Observers across the political spectrum, from Senator John McCain to former Middle East envoy Dennis Ross, say the threat is closer than it appears.8,9 And it's never a good idea to underestimate this president's capacity for recklessness.
We can't run the risk that they're crazy enough to do it. That's why it's so important that we make sure policymakers understand the cost of war, and we pressure Congress not to roll over on Iran. If we can raise the money today, here's what we'll do:
  • A number of top retired generals and military experts are willing to say publicly that attacking Iran would be a strategic disaster. We'll put them on tour to speak to political leaders, editorial boards and big audiences.
  • We'll run ads challenging the Bush administration and key presidential candidates—and remind people that the last time we heard many of these phony arguments was in the lead-up to war with Iraq.
  • We'll commission polling to show wavering politicians that if they stand up against war with Iran, the public will stand with them.
  • We'll run a major grassroots campaign urging Congress to confront the administration on Iran.
None of us know how likely a strike against Iran really is. But I'm going to do more than just hope it doesn't happen. The signs and signals have become too glaring. We have to act.
Please join in launching this campaign:
https://pol.moveon.org/donate/irandonate.html?id=11491-2080446-BytaAq&t=3
There have been a few leaders and organizations within the progressive movement who've consistently sounded the alarm on this issue. Now it's time for the rest of us to join them.
Thanks for all you do,
Eat better for a better world, and youll feel better too.
If you eat better, less meat and flesh and corpses, and more fruits and vegetables it will help the earth to heal. You will feel better inside your body also, when there is less death-energy circulating around it. Try it and see for yourself.
No Money for Health Insurance for Kids, only War
I don't like to talk politics and i have a way too high tolerance for ineptitude and criminal behavior in our leaders, but when i heard that Bush said today that we can't afford to pay for the bill that would provide health insurance to kids i just got this uneasy feeling. It is shocking that our country can't afford health insurance for its kids. We can only pay for war. We are a poor country indeed. It is almost as if they want to create a third world country here.
Why eat raw foods?
Observe nature and you will see that of all the different kinds of species and anatomical designs made by God they all follow one rule: they don't destroy their food before they eat it. Putting fire to anything changes it, and the changes are not for the better. Eat more foods that have not been exposed to fire, that way you actually get the nourishment that is in the food. Eat as much food from the plant kingdom and stay away if possible from meat, fish, chicken etc.
We are what we eat... we don't want to be a chicken.
Cell Phones and Safety
In this 21st century we are exposed to all sorts of stuff that our ancestors were not. One of these new exposures is to radio waves of all sorts. Particularly relevant to us is cell phone radiation for the following reason:
Your brain is well protected by the thick skull bones. Radiation can not penetrate your brain through your skull very easily. That is good because your brain is a sensitive organ that does not appreciate this kind of outside interference. There is however a doorway directly into the brain that is unprotected by the skull bones: the ear and inner ear pathway to the brain is direct and unobstructed.
So when we press cell phones tightly to our ears we are essentially directing these high energy radio waves into our brain where they reek havoc because they are not welcomed. The inner ear is the pathway and the radiation spilling out of the cell phones thus could not be closer to the most dangerous place they can be: the brain.
IN CHILDREN IT IS EVEN MORE DANGEROUS. Studies i have read showed that the blood-brain barrier of children becomes ineffective while they are using cell phones. Never let a child hold a cell phone to their ears.
There are a couple of ways of mitigating the situation. For one, always employ the speaker phone and hold it far away as possible so you can still hear the person. Also they make little stickers of gold metal mesh that you stick over the ear hole of the phone as the ear hole is where all the radiation leaks out of. Also constantly switch sides of your head as you talk. There is a scary correlation between the recent spate of brain cancers and the use of cell phones through the last 15 years.
Remember that just because you cant see it doesn't mean it is not happening. Waves are real things!
Realize your Power
As humans we are powerful beings. It is easy to forget the mystical truth about everything but imagine for a moment that things aren't always what they seem. As a human you can set an intention and then realize it with actions. We can shape the future, we can make a difference with each kind action, we can communicate without words. Our brains are powerhouses, literally. They are electricity generators as well as universal radio transmitters and receivers. Never underestimate the power of a well trained human brain, especially one attached to a well trained body. Take responsibility for your power. Enjoy it, it is literally divine.
Feedback Cycles are the Law
The operation of feedback cycles is one of the most important for us to understand. Feedback cycles can be positive or negative. Basically feedback cycles mean that something you do creates an environment for the perpetuation of more of the same. The feedback cycle means that each action has a profound affect on everything because its direction will help determine your next location!
Negative feedback cycles are simple to describe. You eat something unwise, it makes you feel depressed and sad, so you eat something else to make you feel better and then it makes you feel bad again. You gain wait so you get discouraged so you just eat more so you gain more weight. Simple and common i guess.
The beauty of it is that it works the other way also.
You eat kind of good and exercise daily for a couple of days and you start to feel remarkably better and it gets easier for you to make a smarter food decision and that helps you exercise better, which makes you feel better, which makes you want to keep eating a little smarter, and so it goes in the positive direction.
Use this universal law for your benefit! Start it all off with a piece of fruit and a Sun- Salutation.
Everything in the Material World is Relative
In the material world everything is relative! Relativity is a inherent to the world of materiality, not just an attribute. Everything is relative. What you think of as problems for sure are relative!
You think you have a problem? Can you eat? Do you have a place to sleep at night? Are you dying of a disease presently? Then no, you really don't have a problem. We all give too much weight to situations that don't resemble problems, and we often let our minds cycle around in thoughts of self-pity or anger. Our small situations are not problems. Problems are war and disease, not things that are more aptly just smaller annoyances. Most of the time, what is seen as a problem in our society can be turned into an opportunity to learn something and make a change if necessary. Most of the time, calling something a problem is not required, and only creates the problem. Read Eckart Tolle's THE POWER OF NOW if you have not.
Putting a positive or negative charge on anything is not required.
Alleviating Lower Back Pain
Fred Busch Lower Back Pain Resources
Many people have lower back pain and it is chronic for them. Most people who have lower back pain engage in actions that make it worse, sometimes in the name of making it better. Many people do forward bends to try to ‘stretch’ the lower back or ‘get’ to the spot through a stretch. This is not a good idea. First of all for clarity the type of lower back pain I am specifically referring to in this case is the sacra-iliac joint area where the sacrum meets the ileum. But I am also referring to back pain caused by herniated discs on the bottom lumbar vertebrae. If it is sacra-iliac, sometimes it is felt more on one side or the other and it is always a deep kind of sensation. For this type of back pain, which is fairly common, the following advice if followed has a significant chance of eliminating the pain. The exercises must be practiced daily because if we want to have a pain free existence, we have to earn it.
It is very important to understand that Yoga can either help or hurt a lower back situation. The wrong Yoga poses can do added damage to the situation. Many inexperienced teacher don’t understand the necessity to treat lower back pain specifically, so if you go to a yoga class you must employ the following principles on your own and without exceptions.
What it all comes down to is this: The hamstrings are attached to the Pelvis at the sitting bones and the hamstrings thus affect the ability of the pelvis to tilt forward during forward bends. So if the hamstrings are tight they will limit the pelvic tilt and as a result there will be a great stress in the sacra-iliac joint or in the herniated lumbar discs because the pelvis is not tilting yet the student is attempting for pull himself down anyway. It is a tug of war between the hamstrings and the sacra-iliac joint and the hamstrings are stronger so they will win. With that understanding it will now make sense to employ the following guidelines to keep the lower back safe while doing Yoga classes.
Actions to Avoid:
Most importantly avoid all forward bending that has legs straight and together at the same time. Seated forward bend and standing forward bends with legs together and straight is the most dangerous of all.
Avoid twisting if you have herniated disc history unless you are certain in what you are doing.
Actions to perform every day:
Exercise #1: Downward Facing Dog with knees slightly bent. Bend one knee at a time and do little mini runner’s lunges.
Exercise #2: Lie on your back and lasso a strap around the base of your big toe and pull on your straight leg. One leg at a time, switching sides every three breaths.
Repeat these for 15 minutes, back and forth.
Bellydance for Pre-Natal Prep
Wall Street Journal did a great article chronicling Bellydance history and explained the roots of Bellydance come from preparation for child birth. The MD in the article who gave birth to the child while the Bellydance teacher was in the room said that the pelvic motions that he encourages women to do to push the baby out are the exact same as the Bellydance undulations.
The Business of Oncology
I read an article in the New York Times a week ago about Cancer doctors and the way their pay is structured to be based on number of treatments (chemotherapy and anemia) and not the amount of time they spend with the patient. So basically Cancer doctors only get paid if they administer chemotherapy. The article says this has created a culture where many people are given chemotherapy regardless of whether it is the best treatment choice for them. People have been going to the Oncologist and expecting an expert and unadulterated opinion on how to save their life and instead they are steered into a chemotherapy treatment without any conversation. They are forced to assume that the doctor had their best interest in mind. Unfortunately what the article is saying is that these doctors only have their own financial interest in mind. Even though you would expect more from your doctors the articles says that when seen in the light of oncology as a business, everything makes sense.
Hemp is an answer
Hemp can be used for a myriad uses. In the time of our fore-fathers of this country, Hemp was the most important crop due to its use for cordage and fibers. Hemp is a resource that we can not afford to ignore. Pressure must somehow be placed on the right people to differential hemp from marijuana and let the industries use hemp to solve all of our problems. Nothing can match hemps potential to be our panacea. The outdated association of Hemp to Marijuana must end so that we can stop deforestation and stop polluting the planet with products for all kinds inferior to what hemp could make.
Not all Ethanol is created equal
Our government is trying to sell us on Ethanol as the answer to the future's energy needs. But not Ethanol is the same! Ethanol can be made from many things including a recent report that says they will make some from orange peels in Florida. Ethanol from a citrus peel or some post consumer recycled plant product is good. Ethanol from Sugar cane the way they do it in Brazil is not that bad. Sugar cane can yield a decent amount of energy for the effort.
The catastrophic error in sense and judgment comes from those who propose using corn as the base for Ethanol. Using corn for ethanol is a vast waste of agricultural potential... and the effects have been to put a squeeze on the corn markets so that poor people in countries like Mexico feel the negative effect. We can never grow enough corn to sustain our energy demands in vehicles and even trying would make corn the only crop grown ever again. And corn is an environmentally poor crop due to its needs of water and fertilizer. Using corn for ethanol is a big mistake. We should be putting our recourses into finding the best source for ethanol which might be sugar cane... might be hemp... anything but corn.
Critical in thought, not of yourself.
Be critical in thought, but not over critical of yourself.
Critical thinking is the ability to think about something for yourself and determine whether you agree or not based upon your own calculus. Critical thinking is what we need a lot more of these days. Too often, we take other people's words for the truth without doing critical thinking. Following the herd is easier than making a path for yourself that is true, but the herd does not always move in the right direction. To think critically you must abandon positionality and be open to the idea being true or not true and then making sure in your own analysis that it is true.
So think critically about things. But don't be overly critical of yourself. True that we must be critical of ourselves if we act unconsciously or stupidly or negatively, but only for a moment and then we must learn our lesson and move forward. Being overly critical of yourself is a form of self-attack. It is important not to attack yourself, rather to save your energy for the learning of the lesson and the promise to not make same mistakes twice. Be watchful for criticizing, negative thoughts aimed at yourself and let them go mid-sentence. We must be our own best friend, not our own enemy. We must use our mind for positive potential rather than negative abuse. Give yourself a break as you do your best in this world! Have compassion for yourself first.
Surrender vs. Path of Least Resistance
There is great confusion regarding the concept of surrender. Many people think it is the same as the path of least resistance.
Surrender is sometimes likened to going with the flow. And the path of least resistance is an observation of water's behavior. What it comes down to is that water can be used as an analogy both ways. Water flowing around big objects shows how water flows forward over obstacles. But water also flows in the path of least resistance which is an analogy that can be learned from in a different way.
Surrender does not mean acquiescence or defeat. Rather surrender is a way of relating to God, of more precisely of emptying yourself so that you are filled with the feeling and power of oneness. The real surrender is a victory. Surrender means acceptance of the present moment. The opposite of surrender is resistance. Resistance is when you are not happy unless something changes. The surrender is the relinquishing of the illusion of control to its rightful owner- God. Only God is in control. And we are all just a bunch of pretenders who think that it is not the Grace of God that keeps us on the planet for the brief time given. Surrender is always accompanied by Gratitude.
Acceptance of the present moment does not mean that you accept the continuation of the situation. It does not mean that you do nothing to make changes that are useful. If something has to change, do it. Be at peace before you change it, be at peace while your changing it, and be at peace after it has been changed. We can make the world a much better place one action at a time. My favorite saying is 'Be the change you want to see in the world.'
Falling in the path of least resistance is different than surrender which is a spiritual float. Water travels in the path of least resistance, always. Many of our lifestyle habits like eating crap and thinking negative thoughts are simply our continuation of our life being lived in the path of least resistance. The easy way. The way we know. The path of least resistance is different than surrendering to the Flow. The path of least resistance needs to always be examined so that 30 years don't fly by and you wonder what the hell happened. Do something different for fun. Eat differently. Exercise more. Give money to a homeless guy. But give a twenty and not a one and listen to him express his gratitude directly to God. Just change your patterns to make sure you like them.
I saw an article a few days ago in the New York Times about a development of a new kind of battery, a Sodium-Sulfur (NaS) battery that has great capacity and lifespan. This is very big news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The key to energy is how to store it. The question about electricity is how to store it. Electricity is flowing and must be drawn from directly as it is being generated. In order to not require the electricity to be generated in the same instant as the demand, batteries (storage) is required.
Batteries have never been as good as we needed them to be. Until now! The new battery that has just emerged is vastly different to its predecessors and can function like an electrical substation with its potential in storage and lifespan. This is INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT BECAUSE NOW WE CAN HAVE SOLAR PANELS OR WIND TURBINES ATTACHED TO THE BATTERY WHICH CAN SAVE ALL THE POWER UNTIL NEEDED.
People and industry and governments need to change the way electricity is generated and used. These batteries make renewable energy a very viable option. Spread the word, research it yourself. If you can afford one, buy one for yourself and 'get off the grid' since it would enable you to. I think these batteries are about the size of a car. There are some very effective solar panels out there.
About 10 years ago i worked for a solar energy company for a bit and learned some interesting things. Again what it came down to was that solar power could easily be harnessed and turned into electricity, the problem was that you could not store it and so if there were clouds for too long you lost power. I still own a portable solar panel that could run my ipod from that job. It was all about the batteries.
To give you the background on the renewable energy situation understand that renewable energy like solar or wind sources are the entire answer to our situation but the energy they create could not be efficiently stored so as i said, if the sun was not out or the wind was not blowing, there could be no power. Up till now the batteries have been the wink link. All power that is not from an engine must be from a battery. Electric cars simply have a good battery that gets charged from another source, like coal or nuclear. Hybrids use the energy generated from the movement of the car to charge the battery and they switch between battery and engine power.
We need to radically shift our power plants into renewable neighborhood based local substations.
We can do it now. If you are inclined contact your government representatives and pressure them to fund this type of solution.
July 4th
As much as i am to some degree saddened by the state of this country and its actions, there can be no confusion about the gratitude i have for having been born here. I have been in a state of almost disbelief of what this country is doing with respect to many issues, domestic and international. I am quick to criticize because the criticism is warranted. But being born in this country is the greatest of all blessings. The freedoms and possibilities here don't exist in very many other places. We need to change this country's direction, as we give thanks for being from here.
Pigeons, Squirrels, and God
As humans we have drastically altered our surroundings and in doing so have created an environment which is not hospitable to wildlife. Much of the wildlife that was present wherever human city and civilizations are now, are no longer there. We as city dwellers do not get a chance very often to sit meditatively and observe wildlife. And yet at the same time we are surrounded by wildlife that we take for such granted that we literally don't notice them. While we hold animals that are rare in high regard we ignore animals that are common. And yet it is precisely these common animals that deserve the most respect. These are animals that have been able to adapt to the human presence and still thrive. They bless us with the presence of God. These are wild animals in our midst. This point was made clear to me when i was in Kenya 10 years ago and was walking and looking for wildlife, and looked in a tree and saw a ring-necked dove... the same kind that are everywhere in the cities... and there it was in the middle of the African Savannah surviving just as well. I realized how much i took for granted the presence of such powerful beings in my midst. Nature is an expression of God, as are You.
Rise! - Global Mala Project
Hey Everyone---Keep your eyes open for the event at Miami Yogashala. Namaste. Pass this one along!!! fb
Join the Global Mala Project- a call to the worldwide yoga community to come together in the powerful metaphor of the mala or sacred circle.
We have 108 days or less then 4 months until the Fall Equinox and UN International Peace Day. On September 21st, 22nd, and 23rd, people from many faiths and backgrounds will come together for a two-fold purpose:
* aligning one's personal consciousness as a positive force for change internally and communally and
* taking real action towards that living peace and that which we can prevent: Global Warming, AIDS, and Poverty.
If you are interested in participating click here for a PDF of how studios can get involved. Or email us at info@globalmala.org
This newsletter is filled with information of what is happening in over 45 cities around the world so that it can easily be forwarded – as the grassroots voice has always been the fastest network around.
Please join the worldwide global mala now and on Sept. 21st-23rd - each one of us is a sacred light upon the mala of collective consciousness.
Children
Discussing with people how to raise their own children is always a touchy subject, but, i wonder why it so acceptable to feed our children such garbage. Why do we let our kids eat such things as sugary candies (diabetes and A.D.D.), fried foods (cancer and heart disease), and meats (cancer and heart disease). I just don't understand i guess why if you love your children would you not make certain that what they eat is at least decent. The garbage we are feeding our children is creating the fattest generation on earth. We are all fat now. Fat seems to be normal. It is fine for an adult to do whatever they want. If an adult wants to make a 'conscious' decision and eat wierd foods and get fat fine! We are all free to do what we want. But children don't have the luxury of choice and are forced to eat whatever you feed them. Feed them decently if possible. Obesity in childhood is devastating for the body.
The fantastic part is that kids are so resilient that as soon as you feed them somewhat intelligently they heal and transform much faster than adults. More Fruit less garbage candy... More Greens less Fried foods.... Less meat.... those are good starters, but study the subject yourself please!!!
